Problems of integration of Ukraine into the European Union
Smahlenko, Andrii
This thesis explores the challenges that Ukraine faces in its efforts to integrate into the European Union. It analyses Ukraine's economic data, including inflation, government debt and deficit, and long-term interest rates, and makes recommendations for improving its economic situation. The thesis also discusses Ukraine's implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU and the tasks that Ukraine needs to complete to fulfil its obligations under the agreement. In addition, the thesis examines a regression model that analyses the impact of debt, foreign direct investment, education, and trade on Ukraine's GDP. Finally, the thesis concludes that Ukraine must demonstrate tangible success in its political and socioeconomic modernization to become a full-fledged member state of the EU.
Legislative Development of Labor Mobility in the European Communities
Šubrt, Michael ; Lukešová, Anna (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the legislative development of labor mobility within the European Communities. The key research question is formulated as: "What has been the development of labor mobility within the European Communities and what legislative changes has this phenomenon undergone?" That makes this thesis a historical single-case study focused on one particular European policy. To explain the development, this thesis analyses primary sources (e.g., the primary and secondary European legislation and international treaties) but it also considers secondary legislation and the broader context. The main article is divided into four subchapters, each dedicated to the development in particular periods: before the establishment of the European Economic Community, after the Treaties of Rome, after the Single European Act, and finally after the establishment of the European Union by the Maastricht Treaty. The conclusion provides a summary of the findings.
Public attitudes towards European integration in the Czech Republic
Chytrá, Valérie ; Císař, Ondřej (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
The European integration project started as a primarily economic project of political elites. Over time, it developed to deal with political and cultural issues and became an object of interest for the European general public. We recognize various factors that are connected to citizens' support towards European integration which reflect the issues that European integration brings together. Research commonly distinguishes three lines of explanation for public attitudes towards European integration. In this thesis, we are asking which factors are associated with support towards European integration in the Czech Republic. The regression analysis is based on European Social Survey data from 2020. The results show that support for European integration in the Czech Republic is recently connected the most to cultural factors which are support for immigration and the strength of national and European identity. Fairly strong predictors are also political factors such as trust in domestic political institutions and satisfaction with democracy. To a lesser extent but still significant are also economic factors, specifically evaluation of personal financial situation and national economic situation. Overall, the support is linked more strongly to issues that tend to be more stable over time, rather than to...
Is Czech society Eurosceptic? Analysis of the attitudes of the Czech population towards the EU
Hübscherová, Tereza ; Dvořák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Tuček, Milan (referee)
Diploma thesis Is Czech society Eurosceptic? Analysis of the attitudes of the Czech population towards the EU brings insight into the negative attitudes of the Czech society towards the European Union and European integration in a number of its dimensions. This is a cross-sectional quantitative research with the main intention to identify the dimensions of public Euroscepticism in Czech society through secondary data analysis, and subsequently clarify the role and influence of socio-demographic and socio-economic characteristics of society in the spheres. The thesis focuses on the sociology of European integration in connection with Euroscepticism, especially public, and brings insight into the development of its typologies. The results of the thesis represent the dimensions of negative attitudes towards the European Union that exist in Czech society. It is about democratic, economic, sovereign, social and Euroscepticism based on identity, while the influence of individual socio- demographic and socio-economic characteristics manifests itself in every form and, due to the detailed focus, in some cases in connection with the influence of personality factors on public Euroscepticism deviation from generally valid statements and new findings appear.
Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and its European policy 1986-2007
Ježková, Simona ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mejstřík, Martin (referee)
This master's thesis, titled Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and its Approach to European Integration 1986-2007, analyses an era of twenty-plus years in which the party, led by Jörg Haider, underwent a major ideological shift. The FPÖ abandoned its original liberal pro-European position and, in the 1990s, became a Eurosceptic populist movement akin to the far right. This work aims to assess whether these shifts can be described using the theories formulated by Paul Taggart and Aleks Szczerbiak and by Nick Sitter - who postulate that a party's participation in government is among the factors influencing the degree to which it is Eurosceptic. They suggest that a party's rhetoric regarding the European Union tamps down if the party participates in the government, becoming a part of a coalition government or supporting a minority government. During the period examined in this thesis, the FPÖ was a part of three governing coalitions. It was also a period of significant events which enable us to analyse the FPÖ's conduct - in particular, the Austrian accession to the EC/EU, the adoption of treaties modifying the functioning of the EU, the Austrian presidencies of the Council of the EU in 1998 and 2006, the European Parliament elections and their representative's activities in the EP, the process of...
European Mobility from the Perspective of European Integration
Šubrt, Michael ; Lukešová, Anna (advisor) ; Kasáková, Zuzana (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the institutional development of European mobility in the European Communities and the European Union. The phenomenon of mobility is understood as freedom of movement for workers, which evolved into the freedom of movement for all European Union citizens. The key research question is formulated as: "Where and when might the origin of the European mobility be found?" and "How has it evolved since?" That makes this thesis a historical case study focused on one particular European policy. To explain the development, this thesis analyses primary sources (e.g. the European legislation) and secondary literature. The historical section is divided into six subchapters, which describe the development in particular periods: before the establishment of the European Economic Community, after the Treaties of Rome, after the Single European Act, after the establishment of the European Union by the Maastricht Treaty, after the Amsterdam Treaty and finally after the Treaty of Lisbon reforms. In the final discussion, the ascertained knowledge is confronted with some of the European integration theories (e.g. the theory of major historical breaks or neofunctionalism).
Evaluation of Integration of the European Union Member States
Vitvar, Vít ; Hána, David (advisor) ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the evaluation of the integration of the European Union member states through a new index that includes indicators of institutional, economic and civic integration. The main objective is to determine how integrated the countries are from these three perspectives and whether there are any spatial or developmental similarities. The work is framed by theories of integration and placed in the context of existing research in the field of European integration evaluation. An index is calculated based on five indicators from each dimension, but no relation is found between the results of these dimensions. Some similarities can be found when comparing the results of the new index with those of older indices, and similarly, links have been found for countries joining the Union at the same or similar times and between countries from the same regions.
Czechoslovakia and the Maastricht Treaty
ČAPKOVÁ, Anna
The bachelor thesis deals with the gradual transformation of the European Communities into the European Union since the 1980s, which was created on the basis of the signing of the official document (the Maastricht Treaty) in Maastricht, the Netherlands, in 1992. This treaty made a major contribution to the deepening of European integration and was also a significant event for the former Eastern bloc states, including the Czechoslovak Republic. The text also deals with the relations between the former Czechoslovakia and the European Community. The socio-political changes initiated in November 1989 meant, among other things, an attempt to 'return to Europe'. This slogan was used to express a certain effort to reintegrate back into the geopolitical space of an integrated Europe.
Advantages of the Czech Republic's Membership in the European Union
TŮMOVÁ, Šárka
